The 2013 vintage was regarded as one of the best on Waiheke Island. It was also the year in which Chris Canning published his novel, "Finding Albert Strange" - a visceral examination of the chasm that can exist between three generations of one family. Told in one day, Anzac Day in Sydney, it is a raw and telling indictment of the role that greed and materialism plays in undermining the family. Buy it on Amazon and Barnes and Noble.
The screen adaptation of this novel titled, 'A Day to Remember', has been named as an Official Selection in the 2017 Adapted Screenplay Competition.

A screen adaptation of his novel, "A Song for Leonard" won a Drama Award as an Official Selection at the 2017 Cannes Screenplay Contest under the title, "Bedeviled". Set in New York and intercut between the late Seventies and today, it relates the story of Suzanne Finch, a singer/songwriter infatuated with Leonard Cohen who was killed during an attempted mugging of a young Englishman on Madison Avenue in 1979 - a mugging that led to her own death but which years later resulted in the ominous pursuit of her intended victim by unidentified members of the NYPD. The mystery surrounding Suzanne's death is gradually revealed through the lyrics of the songs she left behind. Those songs have been written and recorded by Chris Canning and Los Angeles-based Eden Iris.
Chris has also been a Finalist in the 2016 Hollywood Screenplay Contest and the 2016 Industry Insiders Screenwriting Competition.
"The Novelist" 2013 Waiheke Island Syrah is now on release.
